Resident Evil 9: Is There a Good Reason for Capcom to Keep It a Secret?

It may not be a coincidence that the Japanese company is keeping quiet about the next new Resident Evil (which will not be a remake).

It’s been almost four years since Resident Evil: Village (which is essentially Resident Evil 8) was released, so it’s no wonder that fans of the franchise have been waiting for Capcom to reveal more about this game, which will surely be a new beginning since Ethan Winters, the main character of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil: Village, will no longer be in the story. But what can we expect? That’s what Dusk Golem, a frequent leaker about the franchise, wrote on Twitter:

“I’m going to be tweeting a lot more about Silent Hill because I love the series and I’m super excited for Silent Hill f, but I know a lot of people are also anxious about the lack of Resident Evil news for a year and a half now. The thing I think people will realize when Resident Evil 9 is revealed is that the reason this game is taking so long is because it’s like a big reinvention of the series, on the same level as Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. It’s not going to play like RE7, Resident Evil: Village, or the Resident Evil remakes. It tries new things and is very ambitious. It will almost certainly be revealed this year, so stay tuned,” wrote Dusk Golem.

If Capcom is indeed rebuilding the Resident Evil franchise, it would be logical in terms of timing, as someone else will be the protagonist after Ethan. Previous rumors suggested it would be Leon S. Kennedy, but who knows how the Japanese company will twist and turn the next installment of the franchise. If it won’t be action-oriented (like Resident Evil 6 was, and that was basically the low point of the franchise…), Capcom will be on the right track.

But it’s not official yet!
