CD Projekt RED’s (CDPR) game understandably looks better on the new hardware, so it’s finally possible to run it on a handheld with excellent performance.
New footage of Cyberpunk 2077’s Nintendo Switch 2 port has surfaced. Here we get a better look at how CDPR’s ambitious open world game runs and looks on the next generation N platform in handheld mode. In the video shared by Deck Wizard (and embedded below), Cyberpunk 2077 was running in performance mode, which targets 40 FPS. Sometimes the frame rate drops, but this can be fixed as this is presumably not final code yet, so they can tweak it before release.
Nevertheless, the game runs very well on the Nintendo Switch 2 and the image quality is surprisingly good. It shows how the next-gen system from the big N can deliver a much better experience than Steam Deck. (True, Valve’s handheld PC is older, so it’s understandable if Steam Deck is a bit behind…) Cyberpunk 2077 on Nintendo Switch is called the Ultimate Edition. In addition to the base game, the port also includes the Phantom Liberty add-on. The retail (cartridge) version of the game will be playable without any additional downloads, as both the base game and the expansion pack fit into the 64GB. (This could be a lesson for many other companies, even Nintendo: we wrote about how the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition’s cartridge version of games tricks customers).
Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition will be released worldwide on June 5th for Nintendo Switch 2. This makes CDPR’s game one of the launch titles for the Big N’s new platform. The game has long been available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. However, Phantom Liberty has already skipped the previous console generation, so look out for it on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
