Paramount Games Studio has made a slight change to its previous plans, if we even remember them!

Paramount Games Studio and PlatinumGames have announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, an AAA action-adventure game based on the comic book series. The game is currently in development for PC and unspecified consoles. A Paramount Games Studio representative told Gematsu that development of the 2023 version, which Black Forest Games was developing for release by THQ Nordic, has been halted.

The press release did not provide much detail about the game. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is an AAA action-adventure game developed by PlatinumGames and published by Paramount Games. Based on the popular comic book series of the same name, the game follows the last surviving Ninja Turtle as he embarks on a desperate quest for revenge. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin will be available on consoles and PC.

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin was developed by Black Forest / THQ Nordic. However, before Skydance merged with Paramount, development stopped. Recognizing how much fans were anticipating the game, Paramount Games Studio decided to resume development, choosing PlatinumGames as they were the partner that best understood their vision for The Last Ronin,” a Paramount Games Studio representative told Gematsu.

This means two things. First, we’ll have to wait even longer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin. Second, if The Last Ronin is not the kind of game we’ve seen PlatinumGames deliver in some cases, they won’t be able to whip it up in just a year or two. On the other hand, PlatinumGames has made a few smaller licensed games in the past, such as The Legend of Korra, Transformers: Devastation, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan.

This won’t be the kind of project they’re making just to keep the studio afloat, will it?
