Star Wars Zero Company: An XCOM-style Game Is Really in the Works!

Bit Reactor, Respawn Entertainment, and Electronic Arts have confirmed earlier rumors that such a game is indeed in development.

Unfortunately, there’s no full announcement yet; it’s due in Japan on April 19th, so we’ll be back on the 20th for Star Wars Zero Company, which will be a single-player turn-based tactical game, meaning we can expect a style similar to Firaxis’ XCOM. The game was first teased more than three years ago, back in January 2022, but not many people remember that.

There will be a roundtable discussion at Star Wars Celebration called Bit Reactor Developer Panel with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games. So in addition to Bit Reactor, Respawn Entertainment and Disney (which owns Lucasfilm Games) will also be there. Respawn Entertainment is working as a support developer (presumably they’re more focused on Titanfall 3, which we’ve already reported on rumor level; and the third Star Wars Jedi 3 is in development, but that’s official and we’ve written about that too), and Lucasfilm Games is obviously representing Disney as a licensee.

We reported about this game in a leak at the end of March. We also mentioned XCOM for a reason, as Bit Reactor was founded by veterans of the franchise. The codename of Star Wars Zero Company is Bruno, and its central location will be the Kafrene mining colony. Here you can expect several options: weapons depot, holoboard, special operations and black market. There were also pictures in the rumors at the end of March. They showed two Mandalorians and a Droid taking cover from Stormtroopers during a prisoner rescue mission. It also showed items the player could use (heat detonators, small deployable droids).

Star Wars Zero Company is definitely coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC. It’s not out of the question that Electronic Arts might also bring it to Nintendo Switch 2 (hopefully it won’t be like what FIFA and later EA Sports FC titles were on Switch: release a game and just update it over and over again).
