Wyatt Russell on Working With Spielberg: “It’s a Dream Come True

MOVIE NEWS – Wyatt Russell, best known for his performances in Under the Banner of Heaven and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, is currently riding high with his biggest Marvel role yet in Thunderbolts*, widely regarded as the next generation of The Avengers. While he’s also expected to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, it’s his mysterious collaboration with Steven Spielberg on an upcoming UFO film that’s grabbing headlines. Russell recently opened up about what it was like to be directed by the Hollywood icon: “It’s a dream.”

In addition to his Marvel duties, Russell is promoting the survival western Broke, in which he stars as True Brandywine, a rodeo cowboy caught in a deadly snowstorm, alongside Dennis Quaid. During a sit-down with Collider, the conversation naturally drifted toward his role in Spielberg’s highly classified new film.

When pressed for details, Russell remained tight-lipped: “I’m under absolute lock and key. I got a letter about it.” But he had no qualms about describing what it felt like to work with the filmmaker behind Raiders of the Lost Ark and Saving Private Ryan:

“Working with Steven Spielberg is exactly what people say it is. It’s a dream. He’s a dream. I’ve worked with some of the best, and I’ve been lucky — but Spielberg is involved in everything. He listens, he adapts, he transforms ordinary moments into signature beats with ease. It’s all in his head. There’s nothing supernatural about it — just pure humanity. He sees life through a cinematic lens and knows how to bring that vision to the screen. He also knows how to push actors to their limits — and he knows you’ll get there, even if it takes seven tries.”

What Is Steven Spielberg’s Upcoming “UFO Film” Really About?

Spielberg’s untitled sci-fi film is set for release by Universal Pictures on June 12, 2026. The screenplay is being written by David Koepp, based on an original idea by Spielberg himself. The duo previously collaborated on classics like Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds.

The cast is stacked with talent, including Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Russell himself. Domingo recently teased the film as “something new and different — a love letter to our humanity.” Russell echoed the sentiment, praising Spielberg’s leadership: “He has that rare quality shared by all great leaders — he brings out the best in people. He’s an extraordinary person who makes extraordinary films.”
