Prime Video Cancels This Demon-Hunting Series Despite Great Reviews – Fans Are Furious [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – Kevin Bacon fans just got hit with bad news: Prime Video has officially pulled the plug on his dark supernatural action series, The Bondsman, after just one season. According to Variety, even with an impressive 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the show failed to meet expectations for the streaming platform.

All eight episodes of the action-horror dropped on Prime Video in early April, and for a moment it looked like a win. It ranked high on Amazon’s internal charts, but only reached #9 on Nielsen’s streaming originals list, with 9.38 million viewing hours during its debut week.

For fans of supernatural thrillers with a darkly comic edge, The Bondsman seemed like the next hit. But despite the numbers, it wasn’t enough to justify the show’s production costs. With that, Kevin Bacon won’t return as bounty hunter Hub Halloran—unlike his character, he won’t get a second chance at redemption.

This is a tough blow to loyal fans—and likely Bacon himself, who just last week told Collider he was eager for a second season:

“The dream is to do another season. I would love to do another season. When it comes to building an ending, you want something that makes people say, ‘Come on, we got to find out what happens here.’ One of the main things that is driving Hub is how much he still loves Maryanne and misses their relationship and love affair, but also the music that they made together. So, to be left with the idea that an escaped demon has now possessed my ex-wife and that I have to continue to be around her and I can’t kill her because she’s inside this woman that I love so dearly, it’s a great dilemma for Hub. It’s a really good, cool way to end the show.”

The Bondsman premiered on April 3, 2025, with Bacon’s character murdered by Boston gangster Lucky Callahan, now dating his estranged wife. After death, Halloran learns he’s now a bounty hunter working for the devil. The show received strong critical praise from its first episode, landing 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 76% audience score on the Popcornmeter.

In an Amazon interview, Bacon described his character:

“He’s a very fascinating character because he’s very much of a bad*ss. He’s an a** kicker who is hunting demons, but he is also kind of a man child who’s fundamentally not grown up even at this age. He has a lot of darkness and regret and is struggling with his own demons — it’s not an accident that he’s got internal demons and external demons that are both challenging to have.”

Unfortunately, even the devil couldn’t save this one from cancellation.
