Baldur’s Gate 3: Another Unique, Rare Game Over Revealed! [VIDEO]

It feels like Larian truly anticipated every possible scenario in Baldur’s Gate 3, which was released a year and a half ago — and it’s still full of secrets!

There are numerous unique game overs in Baldur’s Gate 3 that only occur under very specific conditions. You might fail a Wisdom saving throw and get your brain devoured by a dying mind flayer. You could insult the githyanki god-queen and get erased from existence. Now, SlimX, a YouTuber, has discovered another hidden outcome, shown in the video below where he gathers some of the game’s lesser-known secrets.

This particular scene only becomes available in Act III, after entering the city of Baldur’s Gate. You’ll find that the gateway to the upper city can’t be accessed — if you try, a stunning effect teleports you back a few steps. The only way to reach the upper city is during the climax, once you’ve collected all the Netherstones, which shield you from the Elder Brain’s control. You access it via another path from beneath the city.

The stun effect, called mindbroken, requires a Constitution saving throw with a DC of 99. You must roll a natural 20 to pass — and it repeats every time. With the help of Cheat Engine, SlimX shows what happens if you consistently succeed. A special dialogue scene is triggered, only heard if you pass all these trials and reach the gate. Though the subtitles are buggy and show percentage symbols, the interaction still works. The Elder Brain commands you to approach and submit, while the Emperor urges you to wait until you’ve gathered all Netherstones.

If you ignore the Emperor and proceed anyway, the Elder Brain takes control of your mind — and the Emperor scolds you. This leads to an instant game over that’s only possible if you survive a series of absurd saving throws and then foolishly face the final boss unprepared.

It’s amazing that Larian included such an obscure outcome at all. Finding this kind of game over takes a sort of obsessive dedication — something Baldur’s Gate 3 fans clearly have in spades.
