Cyberpunk 2077: Is CD Projekt RED No Longer Behind the DLC? [VIDEO]

Cyberpunk 2077 may be getting more content after all—but surprisingly, it might not be CD Projekt RED pulling the strings this time.

When Cyberpunk 2077 was still in development, CDPR had originally planned two major expansions, following the model of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt with Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. However, due to the game’s buggy release—especially on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One—the studio focused all efforts on stabilizing the base game, resulting in just one major DLC: Phantom Liberty, released in September 2023. That expansion was a critical and commercial success, ultimately selling over 10 million copies, as confirmed by CDPR just days ago.

Now, more expansions could be in the works—but not necessarily from CDPR itself. A Reddit post reveals a lead writer from Virtuos—known for working on Oblivion Remastered and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater—listed on LinkedIn that they’ve been scripting new Cyberpunk side missions. They analyzed character voice profiles from the existing game, collaborated with a narrative designer to write and polish side quests, and worked with English localization staff to ensure dialogue fit Cyberpunk and American English standards via REDengine tools.

That said, it’s unlikely these expansions will match the scale of Phantom Liberty. These could be smaller DLC packs or even tie-ins to a potential new Netflix anime follow-up to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Meanwhile, CDPR is preparing a new patch. During a developer stream celebrating the Cyberpunk 2077 Nintendo Switch 2 port, senior PR manager Alicja Kozera confirmed that a new update is underway. Patch 2.3 will be released on June 26, a detail later confirmed on Twitter by Marcin Momot, CDPR’s global community director.

As for what patch 2.3 might bring, nobody knows for sure. On Reddit, expectations are tempered—most hope for quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, cosmetics, and maybe a couple of new quests. Some fans, however, dream bigger: console mod support, dynamic world content, deeper romance mechanics, and custom cyberware options. We’ll find out soon enough.
