Which Graphics Card Reigns on Steam? An Old Favorite Makes a Comeback!

TECH NEWS – A brand-new Steam hardware survey has just upended expectations: the RTX 3060 is back at the top, while AMD CPUs are now breathing down Intel’s neck. Hardware preferences are shifting faster than ever, and the new numbers are full of surprises.

Steam’s hardware surveys always give us a snapshot of what gamers are running under the hood. Just in May, the laptop RTX 4060 was the most popular graphics card, but things turned around quickly: the iconic RTX 3060 has reclaimed the crown in less than a month, and the RTX 5060 Ti has made a surprise entry into the rankings.

As TechSpot highlights, “the RTX 3060 regained its lead from the RTX 4060 Laptop, while the RTX 50 series cards are catching on rapidly.” Despite earlier criticism, real-world trends are going in a different direction: “the RTX 5070 increased its share by 0.33%, and the newly arrived RTX 5060 Ti debuted with 0.21%.” AMD is also making strides: the RX 7800 XT “grew by 0.99% and is starting to rival some of Nvidia’s best.”

AMD Surges Ahead in CPUs

On the CPU front, things are also shifting: AMD is celebrating its highest ever market share among Steam users at 39.48%, while Intel has slipped to 60.44%. A few years ago, it would have been unthinkable for 4 out of 10 gamers to use an AMD processor, but that’s now almost reality. “The company’s strategy is closing the gap with Intel across the board.”

The operating system landscape is also changing: globally dominant Windows 10 is down to just 37% among Steam users, while Windows 11 is now at 60%. For display resolution, 1080p (Full HD) remains the standard—just as an AMD executive pointed out.

All in all, the average Steam gamer is running an RTX 3060, an Intel CPU, Windows 11, and a 1080p monitor—even though 1440p screens are on the rise. Most users still prefer six-core CPUs, but eight-core chips may soon take the lead. English remains the dominant language, far ahead of Mandarin, Spanish, French, and Italian.
