Cold Symmetry and Playstack are poised to check all the boxes with the newly announced sequel to the first Mortal Shell installment.
Mortal Shell II is a standalone sequel that significantly expands on the original with unrestricted, adrenaline-charged combat; deeper weapon design with extensive upgrade options; and an emphasis on free exploration. This action RPG offers an immersive, interconnected, open world that is expansive yet deliberately compact. It is designed to unfold its twisted landscapes and hidden structures while respecting the player’s time.
Dormant forms of forgotten warriors are scattered throughout the shattered world of Mortal Shell II. Once discovered, each Shell can be awakened and possessed, unlocking its innate strengths and unique abilities. Players can evolve their own combat style by harnessing the diverse, unique abilities of each Shell and unraveling their secrets through the discovery of lost memories.
Mortal Shell II‘s compact open world is connected by winding footpaths guarded by desperate and fanatical beings. Those who wander are rewarded with new story elements, shells, powerful and strange weaponry, upgrades, curiosities, and more. Step through derelict temples of ancient deities, across forbidden forests, and into icy graves and citadels carved from bone. Scattered among these lost landmarks are over 60 dungeons, each of which provides a formidable challenge to your accrued talents and weaponry.
You are the Harbinger, a being prophesied to reclaim the blessed Undermether’s stolen Ova from the daunting creatures that guard her unborn with ruthless ferocity. Mortal Shell II‘s combat system is agile yet grounded. Unrestricted by stamina, players can exploit multiple tactics to shatter enemy posture and deliver critical strikes.
The first Mortal Shell was released in August 2020 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It was released for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Amazon Luna in 2021 and for the Nintendo Switch in 2022. However, the sequel will only be released for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC sometime in 2026.
