The Witcher 4 Dev Reacts to Tech Demo Bugs: Ciri Soars into the Sky but CD Projekt Laughs It Off

The Witcher 4’s tech demo has some bugs that fans have spotted, but a CD Projekt developer is taking it in stride. The dev points out the demo is far from final and even shares a story about a bug where Ciri flew off into the air.

CD Projekt RED is already gearing up for the next The Witcher 4. After wowing fans with a trailer at The Game Awards, the Polish studio showed up a few days ago at the State of Unreal event with a technical demo—not meant as finished gameplay, but as a showcase of their progress. While the visuals left everyone impressed, the community quickly noticed a handful of glitches. One developer, instead of ignoring the feedback, actually responded with honesty and even revealed his favorite bug from the build.

Reddit user NoelsitoXD posted a short video highlighting two classic “clipping” bugs—graphical mishaps where objects incorrectly overlap. One happens when Ciri mounts her horse and a shadow briefly flashes behind her before vanishing; another occurs when she crashes into an apple vendor and one of the apples drops right through her. They’re blink-and-you-miss-it details, but the fact fans caught them shows just how closely the community combed through the State of Unreal demo.

What’s really interesting is that a member of CD Projekt RED jumped in to respond. Developer Epic-Richard wrote on Reddit: “Ha, you caught us! Actually, there are probably a couple more of those [bugs] if you look closely – we were certainly tracking some issues that didn’t appear in the final build. When you have a hard deadline like a live event, you have to go with the best you’ve got, but there will always be things you can improve.”

“I think it’s important to remember that part of the art of game development isn’t always about trying to achieve perfection, it’s about creating something that feels similar enough during gameplay that the eye can’t catch those little moments because there are so many things going on at once, so little things like clipping —which is especially common with clothing—are often overlooked.”

“I heard we have a blooper reel circulating internally with bugs from some of the gameplay,” he added. “My favorite—which will never see the light of day—is a gameplay where Ciri dismounts at the entrance to the market and is launched about 300 meters into the air. We’re super excited about how the demo has been received, and it’s been fun reading a lot of the discussion on the plane ride back from Unreal Fest. Thanks to everyone for the amazing feedback and support you’ve given us over the past few days.”

The Witcher 4 Will Take a While to Arrive

As impressive as the tech demo and animations were, The Witcher 4 is still a long way off. CD Projekt RED has already warned that the RPG won’t be ready before December 2026. Even that’s optimistic, so fans are bracing for Ciri’s next adventure to possibly arrive in 2027 or later.
