MOVIE NEWS – Kevin Costner’s Horizon franchise is sinking deeper and deeper into quicksand, and even the cast has doubts about the future of the Western epic. Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 premiered in 2024 to mixed reviews and disappointing box office numbers, forcing Costner’s partly self-financed passion project into limbo. While fans are still waiting for a Chapter 2 release date, Costner has already started shooting Chapter 3 – but the ongoing legal battles could spell the end of the saga.
The latest update comes from actor Glynn Turman, who spoke to ScreenRant at the premiere of Tyler Perry’s Straw. Turman, set to make his Horizon debut in the already-filmed Chapter 2, shared a worrying status update about Costner’s project. “They started filming Part 3,” Turman explained, giving fans a moment of hope before dashing it again: “I don’t know if they’ve continued it. I think there was a temporary shutdown, and I don’t know if they went back.”
He went on to praise Costner’s work and admitted he can’t wait for audiences to see Chapter 2—if it ever releases. “But Part 2, I can’t wait to see,” he continued. “It’s kind of frustrating on my part, everybody’s part that’s connected, but I love Part 1 as well… It takes us back to old-fashioned moviemaking and storytelling, and Kevin is one of the best at that, so my hat’s off to him. What a bold move he made.” Unfortunately, Turman has no clue when Chapter 2 might actually come out—when asked, he simply replied:
Sexual Assault
The past month has seen the Horizon franchise hit with blow after blow, as the studios and Costner have become embroiled in three separate lawsuits. The first arrived in early May, when New Line Cinema filed an arbitration claim against Horizon Series over an alleged unpaid debt.
Later that month, Costner and Horizon Series were named in a major lawsuit by professional stunt performer Devyn LaBella, who accused them of sexual harassment, discrimination, and fostering a hostile work environment. The suit stems from an unplanned and unrehearsed sexual assault scene LaBella found herself in during Chapter 2’s production.
The most recent lawsuit was filed by the United Costume Corporation for breach of contract, suing Horizon Series for $350,000 over unpaid bills for costume rentals on both Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. With every lawsuit, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2’s chances of making it to the big screen get slimmer and slimmer, much to the disappointment of the franchise’s small but loyal fan base.
