Cyberpunk 2077: Surprise Delay for the “Secret” Update – When Will Patch 2.3 Actually Arrive? [VIDEO]

Surprise delay for Cyberpunk 2077’s “secret” update: the sci-fi RPG’s new patch will take much longer to arrive. Update 2.3, originally set for June 26, has now been postponed indefinitely.

CD Projekt RED is currently working on The Witcher IV, Cyberpunk 2, Project Sirius, and Project Hadar, so many were surprised when the Polish team set aside time and resources for a new 2.3 update to the now-famous Cyberpunk 2077. In fact, the developers admitted they were creating this “in secret,” kept the content mysterious, and initially aimed for a June 26 launch. Now, however, a surprise delay has been announced.

The developer posted the news on X, once again omitting any details about the update’s content, but suggested the patch would be comparable in size to the game’s previous major updates. “We initially hoped to have Update 2.3 in your hands on June 26th. However, we’ll need some more time to ensure we’re happy with it,” the team wrote.

“We’re aiming for a similar scope to Update 2.2. We’ll update you as soon as we can!” To give you an idea of what CD Projekt RED is planning, Update 2.2—called ‘Express Yourself’—was released in December 2024 and introduced new customization options, two ways to change vehicle color and appearance, a more open Photo Mode, and other community-celebrated features. So, while the specifics of Update 2.3 remain a mystery, RPG fans can expect something significant.

Cyberpunk 2 in Pre-Production

Beyond this addition to Cyberpunk 2077, it’s worth noting that the sci-fi title’s sequel is making steady progress. In this regard, CD Projekt RED confirmed that Cyberpunk 2—an unofficial working title for now—is already in pre-production. However, the project still has a long road ahead, and while the team acknowledges that “every project is unique”, they also estimate they’ll need “four to five years” to complete the game.
