TECH NEWS – Beyond AMD’s Radeon RX 9000 GPUs, the popular overclocking utility now unofficially supports “future” Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 graphics cards as well.
Although MSI hasn’t rolled out official support for RDNA 4 GPUs in Afterburner, the program’s developer, Unwinder, took matters into his own hands. Roughly two weeks ago, the lead developer behind the famous GPU overclocking tool expanded hardware compatibility to include more new cards—though this support is strictly unofficial. MSI hasn’t released its own RX 9000 cards, but due to the popularity of models like the RX 9070 XT, Unwinder decided to act independently.
“As I promised some time ago, today we are launching a new beta of MSI Afterburner with support for the AMD RDNA4 GPU architecture. I’d like to mention one more time that MSI does not sell any RDNA4-based graphics cards, so support for this GPU family inside the application is completely unofficial,” wrote Unwinder.
Despite the lack of official backing, RX 9000 GPU owners can still use MSI Afterburner to tweak and customize their cards, including overclocking, editing fan curves, and making other adjustments. MSI Afterburner remains one of the world’s most popular GPU tweaking apps, offering real-time monitoring for temperatures, GPU usage, and VRAM consumption.
The latest “unofficial” beta isn’t available from MSI’s website but can be downloaded from Guru3D. In addition, the new Afterburner beta supports “future” Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 graphics cards—the exact release date is unknown, but the desktop and mobile GeForce RTX 5050 could be among the first.
MSI Afterburner v4.6.6 Beta 6 Build 16591 expands the available memory overclocking range for RTX 5000 series cards by up to +3000 MHz, a tweak that was previously offered as a separate hardware database, but is now included by default. For Overdrive8-capable cards, the performance profiler no longer displays relaxing preemptive sleep latency, making the app easier to use for newcomers. The update also fixes missing CPU performance sensors on Intel Arrow Lake processors, and the bundled RivaTuner Statistics Server has been updated to v7.3.7 beta 7.
