Ghost of Yotei: Is It Just a Shameless Reskin of Ghost of Tsushima as a PlayStation Exclusive?

Fans are not thrilled with Ghost of Yotei, claiming it looks almost identical to Ghost of Tsushima and feels more like DLC than a true sequel. Ghost of Tsushima is one of the most popular first-party PlayStation titles, so expectations were high. But after the State of Play showcase, disappointment set in, with many saying Yotei is nothing but a reskin.

Ghost of Tsushima is one of Sony’s most beloved – and arguably overrated – games. While it didn’t quite live up to the massive hype, it still delivered engaging combat and a stunning open world. With such a strong fanbase, excitement was naturally high for Ghost of Yotei. Yet the community feared one thing: that it would look too much like Tsushima. And it does. Following the gameplay reveal, fans have voiced their frustration, calling the game a blatant reskin of Ghost of Tsushima.

These days, developers often recycle assets, slap on a new coat of paint, and market it as a sequel. While this works for certain series like Yakuza, it doesn’t translate well to every franchise. The latest Ghost of Yotei footage disappointed many fans, who felt that while the game itself isn’t inherently bad, it looks far too much like its predecessor—hence the comparisons to DLC.

Some fan reactions include:
“No offence, but Sony should stop playing safe with their sequels. This is almost pure copy of GOT. Sony should be more creative with their franchises.”
“The graphics don’t look super impressive compared to other 2025 PS5 games.”
“I wasn’t impressed. Looks like a GoT reskin. Didn’t evolve it enough.”

Sony has done this before, with Horizon Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarok, and Spider-Man 2 all retaining strong similarities to their predecessors. By contrast, Kojima’s Death Stranding sequel stunned fans precisely because it avoided the reskin formula and delivered something fresh.

Fans Are Disappointed With Ghost of Tsushima’s Sequel

Now, many players are accusing Sony of simply reskinning Tsushima, and this time, fans may not let it slide. Developers promised innovation, but adding guns alone doesn’t count as innovation. While frustration dominates much of the discussion, there are still plenty of fans excited for the game’s release—and that enthusiasm is valid, too.
