Don’t Like the New Hades 2 Ending? The Developers Might Not Be the Ones to Blame

If the latest conclusion added to Hades 2 left you cold, the responsibility may not rest with its creators. Following the release of version 1.0, Supergiant Games introduced an alternate ending that was created specifically in response to player feedback, even though it was never part of the studio’s original narrative plan.

This year brought two highly anticipated releases from exceptionally talented independent studios: Hades 2 and Hollow Knight: Silksong. Of the two, however, it was Supergiant Games’ roguelike sequel that drew attention after undergoing a notable post-launch change to its finale. The newly added alternate ending differs substantially from the original and was developed with the player community firmly in mind.

For context, since the game’s early access period, players have been able to uncover two endings regarded as “true.” One centers on Melinoë, while the other focuses on Zagreus. The Zagreus ending was introduced in a November update, reshaping the story’s climax and offering an alternative interpretation of events that aligns organically with the game’s thematic foundations.

The alternate ending in Hades 2 was therefore built directly around player feedback.

As Greg Kasavin, creative director at Supergiant Games, explained to GamesRadar, the post-launch patch was guided by community reactions. According to Kasavin, Hades 2 was designed from the very beginning as a project meant to grow and change alongside its audience, following the same philosophy that shaped the original Hades. In his words, “listening to and responding to the community is a core part of the studio’s creative process”.

Kasavin also noted that Hades 2 deliberately explores the passage of time, unrealized possibilities, and the necessity of moving forward despite setbacks. Allowing multiple canonical endings shaped by individual player experiences not only answers community feedback but also “reinforces the game’s central message”.

While there are currently no confirmed plans to introduce additional endings, it is clear that Hades 2 has cemented itself as another major success within the Supergiant Games catalog, refining and expanding upon nearly every aspect of its predecessor.
