Insomniac Games has been quiet for quite a while, but one badly timed social media post was enough to set off fresh speculation. Ben Jordan, the face of Peter Parker in PlayStation’s Marvel’s Spider-Man games, uploaded an Instagram photo that strongly suggested motion capture work is already underway on a new Spider-Man-related project. He deleted it quickly, but by then the damage was already done.
In the now-circulating image, Jordan is clearly wearing a motion capture suit, and he is not exactly being subtle about the context either. He is posing with Spider-Man’s classic web-shooting hand gesture, as if he knew perfectly well what people would immediately assume. To make things even less ambiguous, he paired the image with the caption If you know, you know alongside a spider emoji. At that point, it stopped looking like an innocent behind-the-scenes post and started looking very much like an accidental teaser.
The community reacted instantly, and the fact that the image disappeared so quickly only made the whole thing look more suspicious. It has been more than two years since the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, so the idea that Insomniac is already deep into another Spider-Man project would hardly be shocking. Even so, PlayStation has still not officially confirmed the existence of a hypothetical Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. So while the deleted post is a strong hint, it is still not the same thing as a formal announcement.
There Were Already Reasons to Suspect More Marvel Projects
The situation feels believable partly because the 2023 cyberattack on Insomniac had already exposed the possibility that the studio was planning more than one Marvel-related game. Back then, several internal project names and possible future directions surfaced, and since then many fans have assumed that Insomniac has been juggling multiple superhero developments behind closed doors. Jordan’s deleted image did not create that theory from nothing. It simply gave it fresh oxygen at exactly the right moment.
Of course, it is still possible that this is not necessarily a full-blown Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, but some other Spider-Man-connected production or a different kind of Marvel project altogether. Right now, nobody outside the studio can say that with certainty. What does seem clear, however, is that when Peter Parker’s face model appears in mocap gear making Spider-Man gestures and posting wink-wink captions, people are not going to believe it means nothing. Deleting the image only made that reaction stronger.
Spider-Man Is Also Dominating the Big Screen Again
While players are busy trying to work out what Insomniac is doing next, Spider-Man is also flying high on the film side. The trailer for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already posted enormous numbers, and the level of attention around the movie shows that the character’s popularity has not cooled in the slightest. The film is set to hit theaters on July 31, which means Spider-Man is once again sitting in an enviable position across both gaming and cinema.
That is exactly why many fans now believe PlayStation may not stay quiet for much longer when it comes to Marvel’s Spider-Man. There is still no official reveal, but after Jordan’s apparent slip-up, it is much harder to pretend nothing is happening behind the scenes.
