Overwatch: The Nintendo Switch 2 Port Is Here!

Blizzard’s shooter has arrived on Nintendo’s new-generation hardware alongside the second season of Reign of Talon.

When Blizzard announced that it was dropping the number two from the title Overwatch 2 and returning to the simpler Overwatch name, it also confirmed that the long-running hero shooter would be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. Now we also know when: today. Yes, starting April 14, it is available on Nintendo’s new hardware as well, launching at the same time as Season 2 of Reign of Talon. Blizzard detailed the release in a longer blog post in which it also outlined the new features of the second season, including the new hero Sierra, a new DPS character and the first new hero to arrive since Season 1, which introduced five heroes at once.

Post-match commendations are also returning at the start of the new season, and the season opens with the Operation: Grand Mesa event, a three-week event designed to deepen players’ knowledge of Sierra through unlockable backstory entries earned by completing specific challenges. The Antarctic Peninsula map has also been reworked to create cleaner engagements, smoother team pushes, and more meaningful flanking routes. Ramattra, Pharah, Reaper, Soldier: 76, and Mercy are also receiving minor ability changes, and of course there are plenty of new cosmetic items to buy and unlock through the Battle Pass.

According to Blizzard, the Nintendo Switch 2 version offers improved visuals, better audio quality, and up to 60 FPS in both docked and handheld play, making it a much better experience than the original Nintendo Switch version. Blizzard says this is a cleaner, sharper, more portable version of Overwatch that still lets you play with friends wherever you are.

So the game has finally reached every current-generation platform. It took a little while after last June’s Switch 2 launch, but at least Blizzard, now under Microsoft, managed to keep its promise.
