MOVIE NEWS – One of Reacher’s most popular supporting characters, Frances Neagley, is finally moving toward her own Prime Video series. A new update from Maria Sten suggests that more information on the spin-off is coming soon, while filming on the first season has already wrapped and the story will put Neagley at the center of a case outside Jack Reacher’s shadow.
Reacher has become one of Prime Video’s biggest action shows, thanks in no small part to Alan Ritchson’s physical presence and the blunt, stripped-down version of Jack Reacher he brings to the screen. The adaptation of Lee Child’s long-running novel series has so far built each season around the former military investigator drifting into new trouble and solving it with his fists, his brain and the instincts he carried out of the army. Yet the show works for more than Reacher alone: one of the strongest recurring figures from the first three seasons has been Frances Neagley, played by Maria Sten, whose cool professionalism, guarded nature and shared history with Reacher quickly gave her a weight of her own.
Prime Video ordered the Neagley-centered spin-off back in 2024, and filming on the first season wrapped in summer 2025. Even so, the project has been surrounded by a surprising amount of silence, especially because the separate Neagley series had already moved far ahead while work continued on the fourth season of Reacher. Sten has now offered fans a short update on Instagram: “I know you guys are asking about ‘Neagley.’ We are getting closer, I promise! More info to come… thank you for your patience, it means so much to us that you are still excited. And I may be biased, but it’s be worth the wait, cause we’re taking stuff to a whole new level and it’s KILLER. know what I mean? ;)”
Neagley Will Finally Be More Than Reacher’s Person
The official premise for the spin-off follows Frances Neagley as a private investigator in Chicago. When she learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes determined to get justice. Using everything she learned from Jack Reacher and from her time with the 110 Special Investigators, Neagley puts herself on a dangerous path to uncover a menacing evil. In other words, this will not simply be a side story without Reacher, but a case built around Neagley’s own city, her own past and her own danger zone.
That matters because, in Reacher, Neagley has mostly functioned as the person who appears when Reacher needs someone who not only understands him, but can keep up with him. The spin-off has to move her out of that role, otherwise it would become little more than an extended supporting-character episode. Sten previously told Collider that there is far more going on in Neagley’s life than the main series has been able to show: “Neagley has a lot going on in her life. She has a history, and she has a life lived. She has some quite severe personal issues of her own that she’s grappling with. We just get to know her better and see her grapple with these issues. For anybody who likes the character, I think it’ll be nice to get to know her a little bit better.”
Jack Reacher Will Appear, but He Will Not Carry the Show
Based on the cast, Neagley is not trying to cut itself off from the parent series, but it also does not appear to be designed to stay in Alan Ritchson’s shadow. Alongside Maria Sten, the series stars Greyston Holt as Detective Hudson Riley, Jasper Jones as Keno, Adeline Rudolph as Renee, Matthew Del Negro as Pierce Woodrow and Damon Herriman as Lawrence Cole. Alan Ritchson will also appear as Jack Reacher, although current information points to a guest role rather than a full co-lead turn that would secretly make the spin-off another season of Reacher.
That decision makes sense. Neagley has always been one of Reacher’s most trusted allies, but her restraint, control and private code make her a plausible lead in her own right. If the series properly uses her personal past, the suspicious death and the Chicago private-investigator setting, it can show not simply what Neagley is like next to Reacher, but what she becomes when the nearly seven-foot problem-solving machine is not standing beside her. The only thing still missing now is for Prime Video to finally provide a release date and proper promotional footage.
Neagley is currently undated, but with filming wrapped, Sten teasing new information and Reacher continuing to perform as a major Prime Video franchise, Amazon cannot keep the official rollout quiet forever. The fourth season of Reacher is also on the way, so the platform may end up positioning the two shows close to each other or using the spin-off to keep the universe active between Jack Reacher adventures. If Neagley works as a lead, Prime Video will not simply be promoting a supporting character. It may be giving the Reacher world a figure who does not copy Reacher, but approaches the same hard-edged, military-shaped sense of justice from a different angle.
