With this move, IO Interactive has disappointed players who pre-ordered the game on the other two platforms – the Danish team did not quite keep its promise.
007 First Light is coming out this week. If you were hoping to pre-download the game before its release so you could start James Bond’s new adventure as soon as possible, and you didn’t pre-order it on the PlayStation 5, you’re out of luck. It won’t be possible. “Unfortunately, I have to confirm that 007 First Light will not have a preload on Steam or Xbox. The earliest you can download the game on Steam or Xbox is tied to the official release time. PlayStation will be the only platform with pre-load, as it is mandatory on the platform,” wrote IO Interactive representative Arti_IOI on the game’s official subreddit.

It’s unclear why IO Interactive decided not to allow players to pre-download 007 First Light on Steam and Xbox Series because no official explanation has been provided. However, given that major games like Forza Horizon 6 have leaked shortly before release in recent months, concerns about piracy may be behind the decision. Justified or not, many who pre-ordered 007 First Light are unhappy about the lack of a pre-download option, especially considering the game is approximately 80 GB.
IO Interactive promised 24-hour early access to those who pre-ordered the game. Now, they are essentially telling those players that they must first wait for the 80 GB game to download, which can take hours with a slow internet connection. Thus, the 24-hour early access is practically useless. It’s disappointing when a company promises something and doesn’t fully deliver. They should at least give people a few hours’ head start. This is no way to treat loyal fans who pre-ordered the game.
007 First Light will be released on May 27 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
