MOVIE NEWS – Avatar: Fire and Ash, the latest chapter in the Oscar-winning Avatar saga, will stream exclusively on Disney+ from June 24. James Cameron’s blockbuster has grossed $1.48 billion worldwide since its theatrical debut last December, and it also won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
Avatar: Fire and Ash takes audiences back to the breathtaking world of Pandora, where the Sully family remains at the center of the story. The third chapter continues the journey of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), the former Marine who became a Na’vi leader, and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), as their family faces another dangerous test of loyalty, grief, and survival.
The Sully family now lives among Pandora’s stunning coral reefs as accepted members of the Metkayina clan. Still mourning the family member they lost because of the RDA, they are forced into action when another loved one is placed in danger, and they do everything they can to protect them. Along the way, they receive help from the peaceful Tlalim clan, the “Wind Traders” who cross the skies in their extraordinary aerial ships. Their mission is threatened, however, when the Mangkwan clan, also known as the Ash People, suddenly attacks them. This fierce clan blames Eywa for the devastation caused by a volcanic eruption that destroyed their former home.
The film is directed by James Cameron, with a screenplay by James Cameron, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The story was developed by James Cameron, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno. James Cameron and Jon Landau served as producers, while Richard Baneham, Rae Sanchini and David Valdes served as executive producers.
The cast includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, David Thewlis, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi, Britain Dalton, Jamie Flatters, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, Brendan Cowell, Bailey Bass, Filip Geljo, Duane Evans Jr. and Kate Winslet.
With its thrilling story, spectacular imagery and unforgettable characters, Avatar: Fire and Ash has earned recognition from both fans and critics. The film became especially memorable thanks to its groundbreaking visual effects, dazzling new corners of Pandora and the extraordinary creatures introduced in this chapter. Its emotional and immersive story resonated around the world, and the film topped the North American box office for five consecutive weeks.
The new installment expands Disney+’s rich Avatar collection. From June 24, subscribers will be able to watch it alongside the first two box-office hits, as well as the behind-the-scenes documentary Fire and Water: Making the Avatar Films.
