James Bond Returns With a New Title, but His Next Big Threat Is Coming in a Book First

MOVIE NEWS – While Amazon MGM Studios prepares the next cinematic reboot, James Bond’s next adventure has already received an official title and release date. Charlie Higson’s first full-length adult Bond novel, King Zero, is on the way, and its synopsis promises a villain unlike anything 007 has faced before.

The James Bond franchise is moving toward a new screen era under Amazon MGM Studios, but fans will not have to wait for the next movie to get another 007 adventure. The series is already enjoying renewed attention thanks to the recent release of the well-received 007: First Light video game, while work on James Bond 26 continues behind the scenes and the search for a new leading man is underway. The film franchise is still looking for Daniel Craig’s successor, but the literary side of Bond has now delivered something much more concrete.

According to MI6 – The Home of James Bond, Young Bond author Charlie Higson has partnered once again with Ian Fleming Publications, this time for his first full-length adult James Bond novel. The book is set to arrive in September 2026, and pre-orders are already live. Very little is known about the upcoming novel for now, but it has officially been given the title King Zero.

James Bond’s Next Adventure Has Been Confirmed

The official synopsis makes it clear that Bond’s past enemies are being used as a scale for the threat ahead. Le Chiffre, Dr No, and Goldfinger are all named as foes 007 has already survived, but the world is changing, and even Bond has no idea what is coming for him. The story begins with a murdered agent in the Saudi desert. Only a traitor could have known enough to bring him down, but even Bond cannot guess the secret that was worth killing him to protect.

As Bond follows the trail across the globe, he does not realize that the countdown has already begun. Somewhere in the shadows is a man with more power than Bond could ever have imagined. The synopsis closes by warning readers to prepare for a villain unlike any before and to prepare for King Zero. That framing suggests the novel is not merely leaning on classic Bond nostalgia, but trying to measure itself against the old icons while introducing a new kind of threat for a changing world.

At the book’s launch event, Higson told MI6 that the moment was a major one for him after more than two decades of writing inside the Bond universe. “It’s very exciting. It is very hard to get people excited about books, so when the publisher goes to this level of effort, it says a lot. There I finally am after over 20 years of toiling in the world of writing James Bond! My first big, full-length Bond novel is coming out, and it’s really exciting to be part of the world of James Bond. It’s something special.”

Who Will Be the Next James Bond?

Meanwhile, there have also been updates around James Bond 26, though the identity of the next actor to play 007 remains unknown. It was previously reported that Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve will direct the new movie, while Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is writing the script. Several names have been rumored for the role, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jacob Elordi, but no official casting announcement has been made yet.

There have been 25 official James Bond films so far. The most recent installment, No Time to Die, was Daniel Craig’s fifth and final appearance as Bond. Before Craig, the role was played by Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan. The next theatrical chapter still does not have a release date, but King Zero now does: Charlie Higson’s new James Bond novel will be released on September 24, 2026.
