Playground Games explained why some unusual-looking actions played out the way they did in the footage.
Playground Games published a 30-minute video from the Fable reboot a few days ago. The footage showcased the game’s simulation layer, but toward the end the developers also presented a few combat scenes when they switched to “evil hero” behavior. Many viewers, however, noticed that the guards barely did anything about the destruction caused by the player character in the farming town of Silverbrook: most of them simply stood idle, and the player easily dealt with them. The developers reassured fans that the demo was running on Story difficulty, the easiest difficulty level in the Fable reboot.
“In this demo, the team played on Story difficulty. It’s perfect for players who would rather not be chased halfway across the countryside by an overenthusiastic guard. On higher difficulties, the guards are far less polite… and considerably sharper with their swords” – Playground Games wrote.

Players can significantly increase the challenge level if they choose to. Another element of the game that seemed too easy was earning money; the player earned 18,000 gold in less than a minute by crafting a few swords. This also served the purpose of the demo: “You’ve spotted a rather generous blacksmith! In the demo, our team sped things up and padded the purse a touch to show the system in action given the time slot we had. Rest assured, when you arrive in Albion properly, you will have to put in some shifts to earn gold and buy your chosen property!” – the studio added.

The game will miss its previously planned fall release window because of Grand Theft Auto VI. Ralph Fulton, managing director of Playground Games, admitted there was some initial disappointment, but the studio ultimately recognized the advantages of the new February 23 release date: “First of all, we get out of the incredibly crowded end-of-year period, and of course we avoid the release of Grand Theft Auto VI as well. And honestly, what I love most about this now, and what I tried to convince the team of, is that launching in February, because it is a much less crowded window, gives us the opportunity to stand out from the crowd, to truly create our own moment, and I think we will get the attention this game deserves.”
February is not exactly empty on the game-release calendar. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis launches on February 12, Persona 4 Revival on February 18, and Metro 2039 is also planned for February. On top of that, other games are targeting the first quarter of the year as well.
