Sony Dropped PC From Its Strategy Report and Put AI in Its Place

Sony’s newest annual filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has removed its previous strategic commitment to PC releases entirely. Artificial intelligence is now at the center of PlayStation’s plans, with Sony expecting it to speed up development, improve visuals, and further increase PlayStation Store revenue.

It became clear several weeks ago that PlayStation is moving away from releasing its single-player PS5 exclusives on PC. That means PlayStation Studios’ narrative-driven games are expected to remain on PS5, while live-service titles such as Marathon may still come to PC and even other consoles. Sony did not need a press conference or a formal announcement to signal the change, because what a company chooses to remove from an official document can often say more than a carefully worded statement.

Goodbye PC, Hello AI

Game File journalist Stephen Totilo compared Sony’s latest annual filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to the previous year’s version and found one particularly revealing change. The 2025 report said that “Sony plans to continue its efforts to release its own titles on multiple platforms, such as PC,” but that wording has disappeared completely from the 2026 document. This is not a formal announcement by itself, but it is another strong indication that Sony has indeed abandoned its earlier approach of bringing major PS5 exclusives to PC.

Artificial intelligence has taken over that space in the report. Sony describes using AI to improve studio productivity, accelerate animation and quality-assurance work, and enhance visual quality through upscaling technology such as the PS5 Pro’s PSSR system. The document also highlights personalized recommendations on the PlayStation Store, with Sony stating that the tool has generated an additional $700 million in payment-processing revenue in recent years.

“As AI lowers the barriers to creation and increases the volume and diversity of content, the PlayStation platform and studios are expected to remain critical to delivering high-quality experiences. Within the studio business, AI-powered tools are automating repetitive workflows and improving productivity in areas such as software development, quality assurance, 3D modeling, and animation, allowing production teams to focus on building richer game worlds and experiences.”

“Across the platform business, AI is driving efficiency, personalization, and customer value at scale, while continued investments in AI and machine learning are expected to further enhance visual fidelity and deliver higher-quality player experiences. Overall, AI is expected to unleash the creativity of Sony Interactive Entertainment studios, power a more consumer-centric platform, and improve the PlayStation experience, supported by its global player base, deep IP library, and integrated ecosystem.”
