Will God of War Laufey Launch in the Middle of a Busy Period? [VIDEO]

Grand Theft Auto VI has not only caused a stir in the crowded gaming calendar, but in two parts!

Although God of War: Ragnarök was the star of June’s PlayStation State of Play, the gameplay footage lacked the most important piece of information: the release date. In recent weeks, reports have repeatedly stated that the game, developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, will be released in the first half of 2027. However, according to Bloomberg editor Jason Schreier, the next installment in the series will be released early this year. Grand Theft Auto VI will still have a strong impact in early 2027, as many high-profile games are expected to launch in February and March. God of War: Ragnarök could easily join this already crowded lineup.

“If you’re God of War: Ragnarök, for example, you might look at the landscape and say, ‘This is going to be our big tentpole release. It’s going to be a really good game.’ It’s going to be well reviewed. It’s got a lot of really interesting things going for it. We should be able to get a bunch of media attention,” but that won’t happen if you release it near Grand Theft Auto VI. “A few more games are hitting in September, which will lead to some losers. Again, if you’re trying to get the customer who only buys two games a year, you’re probably not going to have much luck. It’s quite a gamble. Some of those games will inevitably slip, and February and March will be super crowded. I mentioned God of War: Ragnarök. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s announced for February or March pretty soon”, said Schreier in a new video discussing the impact the next entry in the series will have on the gaming industry as a whole.

We may not have to wait much longer to experience the journey of Phranque the Cube and the controversial figure, Laufey, to the afterlife of the gods. This journey combines the fluidity of the Greek saga with the personal struggles of the Scandinavian saga. With God of War: Laufey scheduled for release in February or March of 2027, the beginning of the year will be almost as packed as September and October of this year, as several major titles are set to launch then.

Currently, the releases of Fable, Persona 4 Revival, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and Metro 2039 are confirmed for February. Lords of the Fallen 2 and Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember are also scheduled for early 2027. Once again, players will be forced to make difficult choices that will impact the success of these games.
