Final Fantasy VII Revelation: Is a Ton of DLC on the Way?

A leak has revealed that Square Enix may have far bigger plans than simply releasing the game.

Updates to the Epic Games Store database tracker may have revealed Square Enix’s post-launch plans for the third and final installment of the Final Fantasy VII remake project. The changes suggest that the story could continue with additional content even after the base game concludes.

The leaked list, last updated on June 2, a few days before the game’s official unveiling at this year’s Summer Game Fest, includes not only the base game but also a Premium Edition, a Premium Plus Edition, and as many as seven DLC packs.

These will likely contain smaller additions to the experience, similar to the DLC packs for Remake and Rebirth, such as optional summons and equipment.

The biggest addition to the list, however, is the Story Expansion Pass, which strongly suggests that major expansions similar to the INTERmission episode in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade could also arrive at some point.

Truthfully, this is not particularly surprising, because Final Fantasy VII Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi told WCCFTech during last year’s Tokyo Game Show that DLC was a concrete possibility for the final entry in the Remake trilogy.

It will nevertheless be very interesting to see whether these story expansions draw material from the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII series, such as Dirge of Cerberus or the Advent Children film, or whether they offer completely original content.

In any case, there is a strong chance that the content will be high quality, as the development team has already demonstrated several times with the first two installments that it can expand the original game in extremely interesting ways.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches in spring 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. It would not be surprising if PlayStation 6 and the next Xbox ended up receiving the larger story DLCs, but that is only speculation for now.
