Mortal Shell 2 has made a surprise return with a new trailer, and the developers used the occasion to confirm its release date. According to Cold Symmetry and PlayStack, the game will become available on August 20, meaning soulslike fans only have a few weeks left before they can step back into this bleak universe. The announcement also came with the reveal of a special edition, which will be especially appealing to players who do not want to wait until the global launch.

The new trailer is set to Paradise Lost’s Darker Thoughts and offers a short taste of what the full version of Mortal Shell 2 will bring. It shows grotesque enemies, colossal monsters, and bloody encounters, while also reminding players that the game will take them through a decadent and dark universe. Based on this preview, the sequel preserves the oppressive atmosphere of the first game while promising a more spectacular, more brutal, and larger-scale experience.

Cold Symmetry does not want players to see Mortal Shell 2 as just another soulslike, however. The developers are inviting them to explore a ruined world and possess the corpses of exceptional warriors who have fallen in battle. The Devout Edition Includes 72 Hours of Early Access

Although Mortal Shell 2 will be released worldwide on August 20, Cold Symmetry and PlayStack have also prepared a special edition that lets buyers enter its dark universe early. The Standard Edition will be sold for €49.99, while the Devout Edition costs €59.99 and includes 72 hours of early access. Collectors have not been left out either, as a physical Revered Edition will be available on PS5 for €69.99, including an art book, a Steelcase, art prints, and digital extras. The game therefore now has not only a firm launch date, but also several ways for players to decide how deeply they want to enter its brutal world before the summer release.
