Although Sony has since resolved the issue, this just goes to show that relying on online digital services has its drawbacks.
The PlayStation Network went down just a few hours after the open beta for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls began. Players trying to access the PlayStation Network on a PlayStation 5 or through a game that requires a PlayStation Network login, such as Marvel Tōkon on PC, received error messages. The error code WS-116486-6 appeared on the console. According to the PlayStation website, this error indicates a problem connecting to the server. Even the official customer support page was loading intermittently. The Downdetector website reported that users had been experiencing issues accessing the PlayStation Network since 11 a.m. UTC.

The open beta for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is currently available and marks the first time the general public can try the game on PC. However, it’s unclear whether this contributed to the PlayStation Network outage. Official PlayStation customer support in the U.S. did not initially acknowledge the issue. A Marvel Tōkon tweet asking players for feedback on the game was flooded with responses from people who were unable to play. Some players reported that, after several attempts, they were able to log in and launch the game. The number of reports on Downdetector slowly decreased, so it’s possible that the connection was only intermittent and not completely unavailable.
To our Tōkon Warriors,
We’re aware that some PlayStation players are experiencing login and network issues. Our team is actively investigating the problem and working to identify the cause. We’ll share updates as soon as we have more information.
Thank you for your patience…

The issue was caused by an Amazon Web Services outage. For information on the current status of the PlayStation Network, visit the PlayStation Status website. The official Twitter account for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls acknowledged the issue and directed players to its Discord channel for future updates: “To our Tōkon Warriors, we’re aware that some PlayStation players are experiencing login and network issues. Our team is actively investigating the problem and working to identify the cause. We’ll share updates as soon as we have more information. Thank you for your patience while we work on resolving this.”
That’s some bad karma for Sony, isn’t it?
