MOVIE NEWS – Henry Cavill’s enthusiasm for Warhammer miniatures and the universe created by Games Workshop is no secret, particularly when it comes to the grim future of the 41st millennium. The former Superman and Geralt of Rivia will soon put that passion to use as the star and executive producer of Amazon MGM Studios’ developing Warhammer 40,000 adaptation.
Two things appear almost certain: the sun will rise again tomorrow, and Henry Cavill will remain deeply passionate about Warhammer. The British actor’s fascination with its miniatures, its lore, and especially everything associated with Games Workshop’s 41st millennium has been widely documented. That enthusiasm is expected to take centre stage in Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming Warhammer 40,000 series, where Cavill will be one of the project’s driving forces. His hobby has also distracted him in the past, including a moment when he could not stop thinking about Warhammer during the production of The Witcher.
Cavill shared the story at WitcherCon in 2021, long before his departure from the series following his well-known creative disagreements with its showrunners. Pointing towards an enormous Gothic-style lamp on the set, he finally voiced an observation he had apparently been suppressing for quite some time. “There’s something I’ve been wanting to say for a long time. Sorry, this has nothing to do with anything, but every day on this set I was grinding my teeth because no one seemed to understand the reference I’m about to make,” the actor explained.
Cavill then revealed that the lamp reminded him of a Blackstone Fortress, adding that he had remained silent because he assumed nobody else on the production would understand the comparison. “That chandelier looks like a Blackstone Fortress. I know nobody on set would have understood the reference, and that’s why I’ve been biting my tongue. I don’t know if it was the inspiration, but you nailed it,” he said. Within the Warhammer 40,000 universe, Blackstone Fortresses are colossal structures of ancient origin that can operate as devastating weapons of mass destruction.
That degree of enthusiasm may sound eccentric to some people, but Cavill’s fans enjoy seeing him discuss his interests with such genuine excitement. Alongside his devotion to the Games Workshop universe, the actor is also well known as an enthusiastic PC gamer and previously shared footage of himself building a computer. His enthusiasm even inspired actress Inde Navarrette to assemble a PC of her own. She followed the same YouTube tutorial Cavill had previously used for his build.
Henry Cavill and Amazon’s Warhammer 40,000 Series Are Still Moving Forward
Cavill’s genuine passion for the Warhammer 40,000 universe is one of the reasons he will lead Amazon MGM Studios’ forthcoming adaptation as both its star and an executive producer. The prolonged silence surrounding the project after its 2024 announcement nevertheless caused many fans to fear that development had run into trouble, particularly because the most recent official update arrived in 2025. At that point, those involved warned that there would be no further news in the immediate future. The situation remained largely unchanged until July 2026.
During The Big Summer Warhammer Preview Show 2026, IGN asked Games Workshop CEO Kevin Rountree about the current state of the production. Although he remained cautious, Rountree confirmed that Henry Cavill was still attached to the adaptation and had been involved “from the beginning,” but he declined to provide further details. He also confirmed the addition of filmmaker Mike Flanagan to the project. The director behind Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Hill House, and Midnight Mass is expected to begin working on the script soon.
