The game will first be released on Early Access and will feature Billy Boyd, known for his role in The Lord of the Rings, as MacBrushy.

After unexpectedly inheriting a dilapidated English hotel, Chris David has exactly 30 days and nights to restore the crumbling edifice before it—or something else—claims him. Nothing in the hotel is as it seems—lurking beneath the veneer of paper and paint that Chris applies by day is something horrible that shivers and slithers at night. Don’t believe them when they tell you there are no ghosts at the Grand. While there is still daylight, restore the hotel’s faded grandeur by using friendly, talking power tools, such as a sand blaster, paint sprayer, furniture cannon, and daisy-chain gun. When night falls, those same tools transform into weapons against the supernatural. Use the vacuum to unleash on vengeful spirits, expose invisible assailants with the paint sprayer, and subdue slithering spooks with a well-aimed bookcase to the face with the furniture cannon.

Restoring the hotel by day requires sharp aim and occasional lateral thinking. You’ll shoot paint and paper onto the walls, blow out broken windows, and smash old furniture. At other times, you’ll need to slow down and consider light environmental puzzles, using the hotel’s dark past to unravel cryptic clues. At the heart of the game lies a rich supernatural mystery that winds through the storied history of the Grand Hotel, its former owners, and the player’s own buried past. The hotel and its surrounding village hold more than meets the eye, with every townsfolk guarding secrets of their own. Yet, even Chris harbors truths yet to be revealed…even to himself.

There Are No Ghosts at the Grand is many things, including a musical. Every mysterious character you encounter has a story and a song waiting to be discovered. From spooky ska to wartime jazz to skater punk, each song is uniquely theirs, and sometimes surprisingly so. Duet with them to reveal their deeper truths. The faded English seaside village is full of activities. Explore the streets on your scooter, play mini-golf, search the beach with a metal detector, or take photos on the old pier. Take the fishing boat out to explore hidden coves and dredge up sunken treasures. Just be sure to be home by nightfall because, around here, things change when the sun goes down.

"MacBrushy has been a fun character to play. He’s funny and a bit rude, and he doesn’t mince his words. But there’s a lot more to him than meets the eye. As the story develops, you gradually see different sides of him. It’s clear that he has some hidden depths, and maybe a few secrets, too." Working with Friday Sundae, we’ve been developing MacBrushy’s voice and personality. He’s got a song or two to sing, which has been fun to do in character," wrote Billy Boyd in the press release.

"MacBrushy started out as a joke about Clippy, but underneath that, he’s a father figure inspired by the various dads and father figures I knew growing up in Scotland. He can give brilliant advice and genuinely look out for you, but he can also lose his patience and let you know when you’ve annoyed him. Billy really understood that balance. He makes MacBrushy funny, warm, and occasionally infuriating, which is exactly who we wanted him to be," added Friday Sundae co-founder and creative director Anil Glendinning.

There Are No Ghosts at the Grand will be released in early access for PC in December. The full version will also be coming to Xbox Series. Friday Sundae’s game will also have a new demo during October’s Steam Next Fest.
