Microsoft Reportedly Pitches a $300 Million Package to Bring Xbox’s Biggest Franchises to Film and TV

MOVIE NEWS – Microsoft is reportedly offering Hollywood and the streaming giants a $300 million rights package to bring Xbox’s biggest gaming properties to film and television. Halo, Warcraft, The Elder Scrolls, and Diablo may be among more than a dozen franchises included in the proposal.

The success of video game adaptations has dramatically changed Hollywood’s attitude. PlayStation has brought several of its franchises to the screen, Nintendo scored a major hit with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Prime Video’s Fallout proved that Xbox properties can also reach a broad audience.

According to Puck, Microsoft is already holding discussions with major Hollywood companies about an extremely expensive rights bundle. The package, reportedly valued at around $300 million, could include film or television rights to more than a dozen games.

Netflix, Paramount, and Universal are said to be evaluating the proposal. Leaked information suggests that Halo, Warcraft, The Elder Scrolls, and Diablo could be among its most important names.

Microsoft already has several adaptations in development. Destin Daniel Cretton is attached to a Sea of Thieves movie, Peter Berg is leading a live-action Call of Duty film, and Netflix is working on both a Gears of War movie and an adult animated series.

A Minecraft Movie is getting a sequel and a separate animated series, while Amazon is moving ahead with Fallout Season 3 and a Wolfenstein show. The previous Halo series was cancelled after two seasons, so quality may be just as important as quantity for Microsoft’s next adaptation push.
