We definitely didn’t expect CD Projekt RED (CDPR) and Blizzard Entertainment to team up.

It would be great if more of Blizzard’s classic games were available on Steam. People could easily play them on their Steam Decks, which would give them a wider and more convenient selection of games. Of course, that’s just a pipe dream that won’t come true. Instead, Battle.net’s game lineup is expanding with one title: CDPR’s Cyberpunk 2077.

Following the announcement at Gamescom that the remastered version of The Witcher 3 would be released on Battle.net, in addition to the expected platforms, Blizzard and CDPR revealed at BlizzCon that Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion, Phantom Liberty, will be released on Battle.net later this year. They’ll join the ranks of non-Blizzard games that many forget are available on Battle.net. These include Sea of Thieves (Rare/Microsoft), Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 (Iron Galaxy/Microsoft via Activision), and The Outer Worlds 2 (Obsidian Entertainment/Microsoft). Thus, all of these “external” titles are tied to Microsoft.

Diablo II Resurrected, Diablo IV, and Overwatch are the only Blizzard games available on Steam. The original Diablo is still available on GOG; however, the first two Warcraft games were removed from the store when they were remastered a few years ago. This is an attempt to erase the past, forcing everyone toward the remaster. (No big deal—there are alternatives.)

As part of the collaboration between Blizzard and CDPR, Geralt will appear in Diablo IV as a Barbarian skin, which will be available to players who pre-order the Songs of the Past expansion for The Witcher 3 on Battle.net. They’ve also promised to introduce more Witcher-themed content by 2027. Next year, Edgerunners-themed cosmetic items will appear in Overwatch. On the topic of Edgerunners, the second season of the series will debut on Netflix on October 20.
