Astro Bot: What Will Team Asobi Add to the Game After Release? [VIDEO]

Team Asobi’s PlayStation 5 exclusive is out today, with plenty of nods to PlayStation’s nearly 30-year history, but what content will be added to the game later?

VGC visited the studio and Team Asobi has confirmed that there will be DLC for the game. There will be a speedrun mode, so if you want to complete the game’s tracks as fast as possible, you can race to the top of the leaderboards. There will also be Challenge Courses, so if you want to compete on skill rather than time, you’ll be happy with this update.

Astro’s Playroom, the game that comes pre-installed on PlayStation 5, will also get a boost with the release of Astro Bot. New trophies, four special bots, and if you get them from their unique areas. There’s also Gacha: an in-game currency that can be used to earn special prizes. According to the VGC, Team Asobi will be adding about ten challenging maps and five speedrun-focused maps to Astro Bot in the coming weeks and months. It is not known if this will be all, so the success of Astro Bot may determine if there will be a sequel.

Given the excellent reviews so far, Team Asobi’s new game, which is likely to make it to PC, should have nothing to be ashamed of in terms of sales, as studio creative director Nicolas Doucet has not ruled out the possibility, saying he would have no problem with a future Astro Bot game that doesn’t rely heavily on PlayStation branding. Even before the release of Astro’s Playroom, there were discussions within the studio about whether to rely on PlayStation, but so far it has been considered a nostalgic success, so in the end the studio has not regretted its decision.

So Astro Bot, which is currently exclusive to PlayStation 5, could make an appearance on PC in the future and will surely be expanded with some extras. The only question is, where will the studio go from here?
