GTA VI is easily the most anticipated title of the decade. Ever since the 2025 release was announced, fans have been patiently waiting for more news. However, there may be bad news. According to a recent report, the game’s release will be pushed to early/mid-2026.

Why is this important? Fans were concerned about optimization issues with GTA VI despite Take-Two repeating the 2025 release. Despite the previous goal of 2025, the company seems to want more time to weed out the bugs.

According to a report published on Twitter by journalist billsyliamgta, Rockstar’s developers have been informed that the fall 2025 target has been pushed back to early/mid 2026 as the company strives for perfection.

Also, the PC port is expected to be released 12-18 months later. The journalist claims that this information comes from two different sources, making it much more legitimate than the average rumour.

It’s important to note that this isn’t the first time Grand Theft Auto VI has been rumoured for a 2026 release. Looking at previous reports, the delay seems more plausible month by month.

From the unfortunate release of Cyberpunk 2077, Rockstar also learned that releasing a game unfinished is not exactly a wise move. Therefore, the team may be trying to avoid a similar scenario with this delay.

The PC port can only come in 2027 if GTA VI is released in 2026.

Another reason for the delay could be the arrival of new hardware. The Xbox can launch its new console in 2026, and by then, the PS5 Pro will surely see the light of day. Still, the challenge of optimizing for the weaker Xbox Series S remains. The later it comes out, the more likely you are to miss this console.

Regardless, this report should also be treated with some scepticism. There has been no official confirmation from Rockstar yet. Fans can expect more details as the months go by. Another Grand Theft Auto VI trailer is scheduled before the end of 2024…
