Resident Evil 9: What is the Potential Launch Window?

The next installment in Capcom’s franchise hasn’t even been announced yet, but we can probably already narrow down when we can expect it to be released.

There have been a lot of rumors about Resident Evil 9 in 2024, and we’ve reported on many of them throughout the year, including possible protagonists, setting, development timeline, and even the possibility of it being an open-world title. Capcom was supposed to announce Resident Evil 9 sometime this summer, but backed out at the last minute, leaving fans of the franchise disappointed.

Now, another trusted insider, Lunatic Ignus, has come forward on his Discord server to say that Capcom doesn’t want to wait much longer to announce Resident Evil 9, and that it could finally happen in the coming weeks or months. We can think of three possible dates. One is the Tokyo Game Show, which starts on Thursday. The second is The Game Awards, which will be held on December 12th (it’ll slip to the 13th around here due to time zone differences). The third possibility is the rumored State of Play for September, which is supposed to be on September 24th (we don’t see much chance of that).

Since Capcom will be one of the exhibitors at the Tokyo Game Show, there’s a good chance that the Japanese company will finally confirm what we can expect in Resident Evil 9. Capcom and Sony have a good relationship, and let’s not forget that Resident Evil (8): Village was announced during the PlayStation Future of Gamign event in the summer of 2020, and then Resident Evil 4 Remake was announced during State of Play in the summer of 2022. Therefore, during Sony’s rumored but still unconfirmed event, Capcom might also reveal the new Resident Evil episode.

But all this is still not official. The story of the franchise will certainly continue, there is no doubt about that.
