Blizzard Seeks Developers for New Open-World Shooter Game!

It seems that Blizzard Entertainment just won’t give up on showing something memorable beyond the Warcraft-Starcraft-Diablo-Overwatch quartet.

According to a post on the ResetEra forum, Blizzard is currently hiring for an as-yet-unannounced open-world shooter. The job posting is for the position of Assistant Director of Innovation Design. The job posting also sheds some light on what kind of project the team is looking to make (of course, this does not automatically mean that this game will be finished):

“At Blizzard, we create genre-defining games and legendary worlds for everyone to share. Through unparalleled creativity and storytelling, we create immersive universes and iconic characters that are loved across platforms, borders, backgrounds, and generations – all made possible by creating a work environment that nurtures the artistry of game development and unleashes the aspirations of our employees.

As a Design Director of Innovation, you will be the visionary and owner of key strategic innovations for an upcoming open-world shooter game. You will stay abreast of the latest developments in both the indie and AAA space. David Bowie is quoted as saying, “Go a little out of your depth. And if you don’t feel like your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just in the right place to do something exciting” – the idea of innovating in the deep end excites you, balanced with a pragmatic desire to turn dreams into realities that players can get their hands on and enjoy. This role is expected to be a hybrid position, with some on-site work and some work from home. The home studio for this position is Irvine, CA,” the job posting reads.

This is not the first such project for Blizzard. It’s not the first of its kind for Blizzard. It’s not the first of its kind for this project. Some elements of that concept ended up in Overwatch, which is a match-based game, not an MMO. Then they recently canceled their survival game codenamed Odyssey (presumably forced out by Microsoft).

Something should work out for them!
