STEAM DECK NEWS – MSI is scheduled to launch a new version of its handheld PC at CES 2025, but we’re already hearing what specs the Intel-based device will have.
The official CES website has listed some important details about the components that will make up the MSI Claw 8 AI+. It’s powered by an Intel Lunar Lake chip and should be able to play AAA games for four hours before the battery dies. CES kicks off on January 7 and MSI will be one of the exhibitors, so the site has the inside scoop on what the company plans to show, and thanks to that we can report that it’s powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 200 processor and has second-generation Intel Arc for graphics.
The machine runs Windows 11 and has 48 TOPS of computing power. Since IFA 2024, we suspected that it would have a large battery, but compared to the 80Wh that was announced then, the machine will have an even larger one, 82Wh. The four-hour battery life is questionable because many factors can affect how quickly the battery drains, but if the new chip is efficient, it could help avoid having to charge too soon. The handheld PC has an 8″ (20.32 cm) 120Hz display, and perhaps the MSI Claw 8 AI+ will have the same as the Lenovo Legion Go, so it could be as high as 144Hz. It could have 16 or 32 GB of RAM, and we’ll hear more about that later.
Compare this to the MSI Claw A1M. At its best, it has an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor, an Arc graphics chip, a 53Wh battery and a 7″ (17.78cm) 1080p display. It also has a Thunderbolt 4 port, but the MSI Claw 8 AI+ can also have a Thunderbolt 5 port. The current machine is priced at $700 (Intel Core Ultra 5 135H, 512 GB memory), $750 (Ultra 7 155/512 GB) or $800 (Ultra 7 155H/1 TB).
