Mortal Kombat 1: Is DLC Content on Hold Due to Issues?

Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) can no longer just point the finger at Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League or MultiVersus, as another potential scapegoat for the publisher has emerged…

WBD hasn’t really been showing strong gaming results lately. It’s no wonder that the performance of Hogwarts Legacy can’t keep up with the other games associated with the publisher (and no wonder we’ve heard rumors that a new version of Hogwarts Legacy is being made alongside the sequel…). Now we read on Reddit that a third Kombat pack for Mortal Kombat 1 and a second story expansion were planned, but both projects have been wiped off the table.

Considering that the person _FateUnknown_ has accurately leaked several instances of Mortal Kombat related content in the past, it’s worth wondering if he might be telling the truth again. But why did WBD stop working on the project? The last DLC, Khaos Reigns, did not sell as well as they would have liked, so the first story expansion will not be followed by a second one. Perhaps the price was a factor, as Khaos Reigns was $50, which included the second Kombat pack in addition to the story content.

The reception was not good. There are only 68 reviews on Steam, and most of them are negative. Fans were mainly unhappy with the lack of content. This week saw the release of the 10th DLC character in Mortal Kombat 1, Ghostface (from the Scream movies). He was the fourth character in the Kombat Pack 2. The first one had Omni-Man, Quan Chi, Peacemaker, Ermac, Homelander and Takeda Takahashi, the second one had Cyrax, Sektor and Noob Saibot before Ghostface, and then T-1000 and Conan will follow.

Maybe players have realized that it’s a little exploitative to charge THAT MUCH money for Khaos Reigns. Maybe it would be better for everyone if the characters were in the game by default.
