Even though Microsoft put Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on its subscription service, Xbox Game Pass (as promised to acquire Activision Blizzard King), the game still made money.
Newzoo reported that this October, Call of Duty generated the most revenue on PC and console. Since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, last year’s and the year before, both titles played a role in the franchise’s results. This year’s installment was also tied with them (it came in second), and we’ve already heard that Black Ops 6 had the franchise’s most successful launch to date. The fact that it was on Xbox Game Pass from launch day helped.
Fortnite, on the other hand, remains the most-played game across all platforms, and Epic Games’ battle royale likely ended November in a similar position, as a new chapter has just been released, so there’s plenty of new content for players to explore. Epic Games also changed the Battle Passes so you can get them all in one payment instead of having to buy them individually.
Roblox ranked third in terms of player engagement and is also in the top 20 in terms of revenue. Dress to Impress played a big part in this (it was also released on the Roblox platform). K-pop bands and Charli XCX also appeared in in-game events and collaborations were made. Two Blizzard Entertainment titles also made the top 20 in terms of revenue. On the PC, World of Warcraft jumped 138 places to third place (the 20th anniversary pushed it up that much, plus there’s The War Within add-on), and Diabo IV made the money thanks to the Vessel of Hatred add-on that launched on October 7th.
