Atlus Shines in Music: Persona 3 Reload Finds Surprising Success!

Not only have they conquered the West with their RPGs, but Atlus has also dominated Spotify. The studio became the third most-streamed Japanese artist outside Japan with over 400 million plays, led by the Persona 3 Reload soundtrack.

As the year comes to a close, companies are revealing their achievements for 2024, and the gaming industry is no exception. Atlus, celebrated this year with Metaphor: ReFantazio receiving a GOTY nomination, has reached a historic milestone. Spotify named the studio the third most-listened-to Japanese artist outside Japan, marking an extraordinary accomplishment.

According to Spotify Wrapped, Atlus’ most popular track was It’s Going Down Now, part of the Persona 3 Reload soundtrack. Composed by Lotus Juice and Azumi Takahashi, the track amassed over 40 million streams and played a significant role in propelling Atlus into the top tier of Japanese artists globally. This success is especially notable considering Persona 3 Reload is a reimagining of a 2006 JRPG classic, proving its enduring appeal.

Atlus Takes Over Spotify

Overall, Atlus’ music was streamed by 6,247,400 listeners worldwide, accumulating over 400 million plays on Spotify. This marks a significant increase from 2023, when the studio had 3,873,700 listeners. The surge reflects the release of new soundtracks and the growing popularity of Atlus’ brand globally.

This year’s Spotify releases included iconic soundtracks such as Persona 3 Reload, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, and two special compilations celebrating the Atlus brand’s 35th anniversary, including music from Metaphor: ReFantazio. These albums expanded the musical universe of their games while attracting a new audience beyond the gaming world.

Atlus Sound Team’s presence among the most-streamed Japanese artists abroad underscores the cultural impact of their music. Composers like Shoji Meguro and Ryota Kozuka, who have crafted the iconic soundtracks for Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, have become celebrated figures beyond the realm of video games, captivating a global audience.

The success of Atlus’ sound team highlights the enduring importance of strong soundtracks in gaming, a sentiment that has existed since the medium’s earliest days.
