The Mystery of The Acolyte: How Many Seasons Were Planned?

MOVIE NEWS – The Acolyte was canceled shortly after it began on Disney+, but how many seasons were originally planned for the Star Wars series? Manny Jacinto, who played the antagonist, shares the initial vision: “They would have been amazing,” he says.

Disney pulled the plug on The Acolyte last summer after the Star Wars series failed to meet expectations, despite its hefty budget. Additionally, fans of the saga were quite critical of the show. But what if it had been a resounding success? How many seasons could we have enjoyed on Disney+?

Manny Jacinto, who portrayed the not-so-evil antagonist known as “The Stranger,” recently shed light on the writers’ original plans for the series:

“I remember Leslye Headland had this dream of being able to do three seasons and not just this one… But there’s something about having a finite ending to things that makes them so much more special. So yeah, I don’t know if that would have changed, but being able to do three seasons and a movie would have been amazing, and I know we have a lot more to explore in the second season.”Collider

Unfortunately—or perhaps fortunately, depending on your perspective—this vision will never materialize. Fans are left wondering about the fate of The Stranger, Osha, Mae, and one of the most compelling Star Wars villains, who made a brief appearance in the final episode. It’s uncertain whether Lucasfilm plans to revisit the High Republic era in future series or films.

The Acolyte centered on a story where an investigation into a shocking crime wave brought a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) into conflict with a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). Meanwhile, the Star Wars universe continues to expand with Skeleton Crew, airing its sixth episode on Wednesday, and Andor, whose second, expensive season is set to premiere in March.
