Marvel Rivals: A Top Game in America!

According to the latest report from Circana (NPD Group), NetEase’s free-to-play game is in high demand in the US.

Circana’s Mat Piscatella reports that Marvel Rivals is the top game on multiple platforms. The latest entry in the hero shooter genre, with multiple Marvel characters to choose from, has stirred up the market enough to potentially challenge Activision Blizzard’s Overwatch 2. At number one on Steam, Marvel Rivals has been there for at least a week. On Xbox Series and PlayStation 5, it has reached third place (where, unsurprisingly, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is in the lead).

Project Zomboid has made quite a strong move on Steam, jumping from 48th place last week to 11th place. Perhaps this is because a major update to the game was released on December 17th, but it’s still an unstable build, so only those who dare will have access to it, and consequently there will be bugs and glitches due to the new sticker. The game has been in early access since 2013, so it’s been in early access for over 11 years, and we still doubt it will ever come out of early access.

The other big leap forward was Sonic Frontiers. Released in 2022, the game made its way into the PlayStation Plus catalog and took the 14th spot on the PlayStation 5. Other similar titles include Jurassic World Evolution 2, Coffee Talk, Aliens: Dark Descent, Temtem. Fortnite, Helldivers 2, and Roblox had understandably strong performances, but they’re popular worldwide, so it’s no wonder they were able to maintain their form at the end of 2024.

On Steam, Path of Exile 2 slipped one place to #3, but this game is now experiencing serious security issues (namely, stolen endgame resources), which we detailed in yesterday’s news.
