Rise of the Ronin: Another Issue for the PC Players!

The game first attracted attention for its poor performance on PC, and now another bug has surfaced around it…

The PC port of Rise of the Ronin was released last week, and it’s been average to mediocre so far. They could make it worse! The keyword is: saves. They seem to disappear out of nowhere, and several players have reported this! Koei Tecmo responded to this on Monday, saying that they are currently investigating the save issues with the Steam version of Rise of the Ronin. They explained how the issue was resolved. Conflicts with external file sharing services (e.g. Dropbox) should be resolved, saves should be archived and restored from them, and they should also make sure that Steam Cloud is turned on.

Koei Tecmo has also posted a customer support page with more tips that may help solve the problem, but since they don’t currently know what’s causing the loss of saves, it’s going to be a long process for the Japanese developers. Players have reported losing hours of gameplay due to the problem, and many claim to have encountered an error message when closing the game and lost their save files. Others have said that the bug also removes manual saves, so it’s not just cloud saves that may be affected. We don’t even know if it’s a Steam Cloud or Koei Tecmo bug, but it’s probably the weak PC port…

Koei Tecmo has already promised an update to improve PC performance, but for now they suggest that players limit the frame rate from 120 to 60 FPS to smooth out the graphics issues. For a Team Ninja game that previously promised 8K/120 FPS, this is disappointing. It’s no surprise that players are frustrated by the barely PlayStation 4-level visuals, which have a below-average frame rate even on high-end PCs.

It would be nice to see the PC version restored from here…
