Tekken 8 Is in Meltdown – Bandai Namco Rushes Out an Emergency Patch After Steam Backlash

Tekken 8 has spiraled into disaster with 86% negative reviews on Steam, prompting Bandai Namco to announce an emergency patch. The most recent update ramped up offensive gameplay without offering proper counters, leaving the fanbase outraged and demanding change.

The Tekken 8 controversy is far from over. Following an avalanche of criticism from players—including some pro competitors who were joking about switching careers mid-livestream while the game plummeted in Steam rankings—Bandai Namco has finally acknowledged the problem. Their response: an emergency patch aimed at rebalancing the core gameplay experience.

So what’s going on in Tekken 8? In the last few days, players have voiced frustration over a patch that introduced new offensive options without adequate defensive tools, essentially gutting the game’s technical depth in favor of all-out aggression. On top of that, major bugs surfaced: Paul’s unblockable attacks and Jack’s unavoidable moves made fights wildly unfair. The backlash exploded into a full-blown review bombing campaign on Steam, where the game currently sits with just 14% positive reviews.

Emergency Patch Incoming – Devs Go Into Crisis Mode

With pressure mounting, Bandai Namco is scrambling to fix the mess. “Fighters, we are aware of the current community feedback regarding Tekken 8 Season 2,” they posted on X. “We are thoroughly analyzing the game’s balance; more information will be shared soon. An emergency patch is coming in April to fix several pressing issues.”

The announcement was accompanied by an image outlining specific changes to Paul and Jack’s problematic movesets. Bandai Namco also committed to continued work on other behavioral issues. “Even after the patch is released, we’ll keep gathering and reviewing community feedback and applying further fixes where needed. Details, including release timing and scope, will be shared once finalized.”

“A Disconnect Between Community Expectations and the Results”

Bandai Namco isn’t the only voice weighing in. Series creator Katsuhiro Harada addressed the situation on his personal X account: “What’s clear to me is that there’s a disconnect between what the community wants and the outcome of the patch.”

“I understand people might accuse me of anything, but this isn’t the time to worry about words. Our Combat and Tuning team is working around the clock to read every piece of community feedback and craft better future updates and policies.”
