Michael Douse, publishing head at Larian Studios, is so confident in the potential of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 that he’s already envisioning 8 to 10 million sales for the hit fantasy RPG developed by Sandfall Interactive.
More than two weeks have passed since its release, yet Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is still making waves across the gaming world. The fantasy RPG by Sandfall Interactive has become a standout success, even drawing praise from major figures in the genre. Among them is Michael Douse, head of publishing at Larian Studios ( Baldur’s Gate 3 ), who’s confident the title is just getting started.
In a recent post on X, Douse reacted to the news that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has already sold over 2 million copies globally. “I’m hoping that, now that word of mouth is under control, the game can reach its potential,” he wrote. “And I say this to support the devs and celebrate this incredible milestone. It has the potential to hit, at the very least, 6 million units. It might even soar to 8 or 10 million.”
This isn’t the first time Douse has sung the game’s praises. Just a few days earlier, he applauded Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for succeeding in a notoriously difficult market. “Turn-based RPGs are hard to sell,” he noted, while also taking aim at industry executives who, in his view, lack the courage to back games in this genre.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Already Among 2025’s Best-Reviewed Games
The climb of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been nothing short of spectacular. Since its April debut, it’s moved more than 2 million units, as Douse proudly highlighted, and earned some of the highest review scores of the year. Even the President of France has expressed admiration for the game. With such momentum, Douse’s sales predictions might not be far-fetched; the RPG could reach extraordinary new heights in the coming months.
