TV2 Fined 6 Million Forints Over Hunyadi Series: Age Rating Misclassification and Erotic Content Under Scrutiny

MOVIE NEWS – The National Media and Infocommunications Authority’s Media Council has imposed a fine exceeding 6 million forints on TV2 for misclassifying the age rating of the first episode of the Hunyadi series and for its erotic content. The channel broadcast the episode under the “not recommended for children under 12” category, although it should have been classified as “not recommended for those under 16.” Consequently, the program was aired too early, and the incorrect classification was also applied to their on-demand service.

The Media Council determined that TV2 aired the first episode of the Hunyadi series on March 8 at 8 PM under the “not recommended for children under 12” category, whereas, according to regulations, it should have been classified as “not recommended for those under 16.” The program was thus broadcast too early, and the incorrect classification was also applied to the TV2 Play streaming platform. As a result, the channel was fined over 6 million forints in total and was required to publish a statement acknowledging the violation.

The Media Council has initiated investigations into additional episodes due to multiple complaints regarding erotic scenes in the Hunyadi series. The council also fined HírTV: on March 15, during a program’s commercial breaks, the volume of advertisements exceeded legal limits, leading to a 30,000 forint fine.

Furthermore, the Max streaming service, under Dutch jurisdiction, received a warning for incorrectly classifying an episode of the third season of The White Lotus with a 14+ age rating. The Dutch media authority acted upon a report from the Hungarian media authority, and the service provider corrected the age rating.
