Following a leak earlier this week, Xbox has officially unveiled the Gears of War: E-Day limited-edition controller. The controller, which will be marketed as the ‘Gears of War: E-Day Limited Edition Xbox Wireless Controller‘, is set to launch on 30 September, ahead of the game’s 6 October release.

“Drawing inspiration from the E-holes that scar the world of Gears of War: E-Day, the controller features 3D-moulded, laser-etched details of cracked asphalt, complete with red, glowing cracks created by the power of an erupting E-hole. This reveals the iconic Crimson Omen beneath the surface. Blacked-out ABXY buttons are punctuated by a transparent red X button, while matching red triggers and a transparent D-pad reflect the destruction left in the wake of Emergence Day. A dark silver metallic COG tag on the battery door signifies ‘Never Fight Alone’. Squad up. Textured grips complete a design built for fans ready to carry a piece of Sera into every battle,” reads the official Xbox description.

The controller costs $90 and is already available to pre-order from the Xbox online store. Alongside the main controller, Xbox is adding a new Gears of War: E-Day-themed design to the Xbox Design Lab store, where players can customise their controllers to their liking. Created by British heavy metal illustrator Luke Preece, whose past clients have included Metallica, Slipknot, and Ozzy Osbourne, the new design features two crossed chainsaw spears on the top cover surrounded by the skulls of enemies.

“Fans can make it their own with upgrades such as metallic triggers and D-pads, rubberised side and back grips, and a personalised engraving, creating a controller that reflects their connection to the world, characters, and legacy of Gears of War,” said Xbox.

The illustration will be available on the Xbox Design Lab from 30 September, which is the same day that the main limited-edition controller goes on sale.
