MOVIE NEWS – Less than a year after wrapping its fourth season, Gary Oldman’s smash-hit Apple TV+ crime series is already heading back to our screens. Slow Horses returns on September 24 with a two-episode premiere, then drops new episodes weekly until the finale on October 22. Since debuting in 2022, Oldman’s turn as the shameless, sharp-tongued Jackson Lamb—leader of MI5’s most dysfunctional squad—has won over critics and fans, notching an impressive 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
According to Variety, Gary Oldman will be joined by Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, and Aimee-Ffion Edwards for Season 5. Newcomer Nick Mohammed (Ted Lasso) steps in as ambitious politician Zafar Jaffrey. The latest synopsis teases another wild ride for loyal fans:
“Everyone gets suspicious when tech genius Roddy Ho suddenly lands a glamorous new girlfriend, but when a string of strange events rocks the city, it’s up to the Slow Horses to figure out how it all connects. As Lamb knows, in espionage, the London Rules—cover your back—always apply.”
Based on Mick Herron’s Slough House novels and created by Will Smith (no, not that Will Smith), the Apple TV+ series has already scooped up several awards, including a 2024 Emmy. Apple doesn’t release viewing figures, but the show’s continued renewal says it all—five seasons and counting, at a time when most streamers are quick to cancel anything that doesn’t hit out of the gate.
Critical praise for Slow Horses is universal. Pradeep Menon raves: “By the time you’re drawn into Slow Horses’ world, you’ll be hooked on Gary Oldman, too.” Steve Newall adds: “You can practically smell Jackson Lamb through the screen.” Original Cin’s Liam Lacey writes: “The balance between office satire and spy drama isn’t always perfect, but the salty dialogue and Oldman’s misanthropic MI5 chief make this one of Apple TV+’s most bingeable series.”
Mark your calendars: Slow Horses is back September 24 on Apple TV+. If you haven’t watched yet, now’s the time to catch up—the sixth season is already confirmed, so these MI5 misfits aren’t going anywhere.
