Konami’s Press Start stream revealed two new online modes for the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake—one of which will only be available on Xbox Series, while PlayStation 5 keeps its own exclusive mode.
During the Konami Press Start event, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater introduced two online modes. Up to now, PlayStation 5 users were familiar with the Ape Escape-inspired Snake vs. Monkey, but on Xbox Series, that’s being swapped out for the Snake vs. Bomberman mode (possibly a nod to Bomberman: Act Zero on Xbox 360?). On top of these exclusives, every platform will get the new Fox Hunt mode—though Konami stressed this is not a new Metal Gear Online 4, as the gaming landscape has changed, and they’re not looking to lose money in today’s market.
“Fox Hunt is a completely original online multiplayer mode. While it shares the same world as Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the gameplay is totally different. If you think ‘Metal Gear multiplayer,’ you probably picture Metal Gear Online, but Fox Hunt will be something new and unique. We appreciate all the longtime Metal Gear Online fans who hoped for a comeback, but multiplayer games have evolved a lot since then,” said Yu Sahara, the mode director. “It took a lot of careful thought to decide what a new online mode should look like. Building on the franchise’s signature stealth and survival gameplay, we’re bringing hide-and-seek and camouflage to new heights. We set ourselves the challenge of creating something unique, far beyond a simple shootout. The back-and-forth tension of hiding versus hunting is the core of this new Metal Gear experience. These are all the details we can share for now, but we’re working hard on Fox Hunt and will share more soon—so stay tuned.”
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater launches August 28 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
