Skyblivion: Visiting Bethesda Was a Dream Come True for the Modders!

Bethesda’s studio tour wasn’t just a visit—it was a full-day celebration of modding, shared passion, and mutual respect between developers and fans.

Bethesda Game Studios (BGS) has made it clear they fully support Skyblivion, a fan-driven remake of Oblivion in the Skyrim engine. Not only did the studio send out free Oblivion Remastered codes to the modding team, but they also invited them to the headquarters for what turned into an inspiring and deeply engaging visit.

It all started rather spontaneously—Rebelzize, the project lead, happened to be nearby and called the studio on a whim. What followed felt nothing like a PR stunt. Instead, Bethesda’s devs showed genuine curiosity about the tools the modders were using and how they could improve them. Rebelzize even mentioned he’d love to see a developer video series like the one made for Skyrim. What surprised him most? Todd Howard’s enthusiasm.

“I was heading to Boston for PAX East and planned some time off to visit Washington and New York. Since Bethesda’s not far from D.C., I just asked if I could stop by. They invited me. It was amazing. Everyone looked thrilled to be working there.”

“I spoke to people who worked on Oblivion, Skyrim, and Fallout. Some had been there for years. We arrived at 11 a.m. and didn’t leave until 6 p.m. While people were heading home, we kept geeking out. Talking with folks who know your tools, who understand your jargon—it’s something you don’t get often.”

Among the highlights was creating a dungeon with a Bethesda designer—an experience Rebelzize hopes becomes standard in future games. He emphasized that Bethesda’s modding culture is alive and thriving, and that the team truly listened to the modders’ feedback and needs.

“Todd Howard could have just popped in for ten minutes to shake hands. But he stayed and genuinely talked to everyone about their day jobs, their project roles. The atmosphere was phenomenal. That company runs on love and passion.”

For the Skyblivion team, this was no marketing ploy. It was validation, appreciation, and connection—all in one remarkable day.
